Discrimination of youth and ethnic minorities in field of employment
BRCKO DEBATE
REPORT
At the end of 2009 and in begging of 2010, ORC Tuzla (as part of project "Regional Youth Action against the Discrimination") worked on the development of statistics and analysis of the situation "Social convergence, equal participation of minorities in B&H". One of the main objectives of this project is primarily to raise awareness of citizens of B&H about the importance of combating discrimination in B&H and the region, with special emphasis on youth.
Results of this activity shoved that greatest level of discriminations for youth in Brcko District BiH are in following areas:
1. Employment
2. School system
3. Discrimination by government of Brcko District BiH
Based on these results ORC Tuzla decided to organize debate in Brcko with aim to invite all relevant stake holders (youth, officials, educational institutions, employment office, etc.) so that they can discuss issue of discrimination in employment and offer recommendations for overcoming situation. Except Miralem Tursinovic director of ORC Tuzla, local officials, institutions and NGOs for this debate were invited representatives of partner organizations: Goran Taleski, "Peace network" Prilep - Macedonia and Haris HAlilhodzic, youth club "Under the same sun" Jablanica, BiH.
Debate was held 10.03.2009. in Youth center Brcko and in total 30 participants were present, mainly from media and youth NGOs and some representatives from Brcko District government, employment office and representative of Roma minority from Brcko District assembly. OSCE Brcko was present on debate as well. Debate lasted for two hours and it was facilitated by Jasmin Jasarevic, general manager of PRONI Center for youth development. After initial speeches and presentation of situation for youth and minorities in BiH and Macedonia and presentation of situation from Brcko District participants reflect on presented issues and asked questions opening debate in right direction. Some questions were answer on debate and for some questions and proposals for changes some future steps and activities are needed.
Recommendations and conclusions that are following are final product of debate in Brcko and those results will be delivered to relevant institutions as well as to participants of debate.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION
1. Higher efforts of Brcko District BiH government are needed, with aim to resolve youth problems in Brcko District BiH
2. Positive discrimination of Roma people are needed in employment process in Brcko District BiH
3. Develop and use non formal education in order to educate citizens of Brcko District BiH for some job positions
4. Education system, especially High school system, in Brcko District BiH need to be mach with labor market needs
5. Networking of organizations that represent youth and also networking of minority organizations is needed and joint approach to government
6. Develop programs of support to private sector for employment of youth and ethnic minorities
7. Use creative methods and be persistent in fight for youth and minorities rights
