SARR BiH Project aims

The action aims to contribute to the overall objective, under Campaign 4 Advancing equality, tolerance and peace, “secure equal rights and treatment of persons and people belonging to minorities irrespective of racial, ethnic or caste origin, or of language and religion”.

The specific objective that the action aims to achieve is to assist in the development, participation by Roma communities, communication to the local level and monitoring of the National Strategy for Roma and National Action Plans, and to achieve rights of Roma at the local level, aided by bringing relevant experience from other countries.

This higher level objective is supplemented by two further objectives:
• To contribute towards central government development of National Action Plans based on the Roma Strategy, with the help of the Roma Council, civil society and a team of experts, ensuring that these Action Plans have clear responsibilities, timeframes and resources allocated, and that they have been drafted in a participatory process with Roma and communicated to the local level.
• To help Roma civil society and community leaders in the three pilot areas (Sarajevo, Tuzla and Banja Luka) to access and promote human rights by bringing groups together to resolve problems through local level round table advocacy meetings with decision-makers at the municipality level and through developing Local Action Plans.
• To support local level initiatives through skills training and offering micro-grants to raise awareness of rights and to organise effective advocacy action.
